Ian – we’ll need to consider the equivalent 4-chr codes we employ in ROPP netCDF (like the current C001...C006). We could have simply C007...C018 or more descriptively something like C2E1..C2E6, C2P1...C2P6. In any case, we need to follow whatever coding UCAR use in their own netCDF product files. No urgency, juts one more thing for ROPP-9 (should I create a Ticket as a reminder?). FWIW, bufr-20.0.4 now includes these new Code Table entries in advance of MetDB updating their operational tables In the next-version library package (which probably won’t come out until 2016) Dave ===== Please note that I work part-time Mon-Wed only ===== -- David Offiler Satellite Winds and Active Sensing Group Met Office FitzRoy Road Exeter EX1 3PB United Kingdom Tel: +44 (0)1392 88 6298 Fax: +44 (0)1392 88 5681 E-mail: dave.offiler@metoffice.gov.uk http://www.metoffice.gov.uk From: Jeff Ator - NOAA Federal [mailto:jeff.ator@noaa.gov] Sent: 26 January 2015 14:40 To: dhunt@ucar.edu Cc: Offiler, Dave; ector@ucar.edu; schrein@ucar.edu; William Kuo; Lidia Cucurull - NOAA Affiliate; Bradley Mabe - NOAA Federal; Shucai Guan - NOAA Federal Subject: Re: Fwd: BUFR sat id code for COSMIC-2 Hi Everyone, Just to close the loop on this, the following is what was approved by the codes team during the December review period: 750 COSMIC-2 E1 751 COSMIC-2 E2 752 COSMIC-2 E3 753 COSMIC-2 E4 754 COSMIC-2 E5 755 COSMIC-2 E6 724 COSMIC-2 P1 725 COSMIC-2 P2 726 COSMIC-2 P3 727 COSMIC-2 P4 728 COSMIC-2 P5 729 COSMIC-2 P6 As you can surmise, "E" means equatorial and "P" means polar. These new entries will get published in Common Code Table C-5 in the next table update in early May. -Jeff On Thu, Nov 13, 2014 at 1:19 PM, Doug Hunt wrote: Thanks, Jeff! However, I never heard back from the CGMS team despite a couple of follow-up reminders, so I'm going to just go ahead and submit it now to the full WMO group since we're now beginning a month-long period of reviewing potential fast-track updates to the manual. If approved, the new entries would become effective in May 2015. I'll keep you posted. -Jeff On Mon, Jun 23, 2014 at 1:40 PM, Doug Hunt wrote: Hi Jeff: Easy confusion to have! COSMIC-1 (the constellation) has 6 spacecraft, the second of which is called 'COSMIC-2'. COSMIC-2 (the constellation) consists of two launches, the first set of 6 spacecraft to equatorial orbits and the second set of 6 spacecraft to polar orbits. What we need are 12 new BUFR codes for the two 'COSMIC-2' constellations. So we need something like this in table C-5: # First equatorial launch COSMIC-2a-1 : 750 COSMIC-2a-2 : 751 COSMIC-2a-3 : 752 COSMIC-2a-4 : 753 COSMIC-2a-5 : 754 COSMIC-2a-6 : 755 # Second polar launch COSMIC-2b-1 : 760 COSMIC-2b-2 : 761 COSMIC-2b-3 : 762 COSMIC-2b-4 : 763 COSMIC-2b-5 : 764 COSMIC-2b-6 : 765 If someone has a less awful way to name these satellites, please let me know! You say that there don't seem to be any BUFR codes assigned for the COSMIC-2 satellite, but your own graphic shows that there's already an ID #741 for COSMIC-2. Could you please explain in a little more detail exactly what entry(s) you need and in which tables, if something other than Common Code Table C-5? In the latest version of the Radio Occultation BUFR format that I'm aware of: WMO FM94 (BUFR) Specification For Radio Occultation Data Version 2.1 19 May 2011 Table 6 (image attached) shows those IDs currently assigned. Do either of you know of any plans to add IDs for COSMIC-2? There will be 6 IDs needed for the first equatorial launch of C-2 in 2016 and (hopefully) 6 more needed for the follow-on polar launch. If not, we need to request these numbers ASAP through the US representative. (I think you have his contact information, right?). Please, cc me on the email. Thanks!
