The cause is a change in the smoothing window between the wave optics processing and the geometrics-optics processing. The two windows can be set separately and one generally wants the WO-window to be smaller than the GO-window (or so I am told). One possible solution is to instead of abruptly changing from one size window to another at 25 km allow the window size to gradually transition from one to the other over a certain height interval.
