ROPP-2 DRI actions

This is a summary of the ROPP-2 DRI on 10 November 2008. See attached document for full ROPP-2 DRI minutes. All of the actions below need to be closed prior to release of V2.

The participants thank the Project Team for the quality of the presentation and the documentation provided.

As indicated by the beta tester, the Software package SW performs as intended and has a very good overall quality.

It is recommended that the ROPP SW package be provided to users once actions with the relevant due date ( “prior release”) have been closed.

Action 1 DRI ROPP v2: concerning GRAS SAF ROPP Overview,

o update table of content concerning list of tables and pagination, 
o in table 3, distinguish the Microsoft windows platforms issue, 
o enhance the characteristics of this release in the different
  tables (such as in section 4.4) versus those which have not 
  happened yet (referring to version 3).

Action 2 DRI ROPP v2: concerning User Guide Part I

o check plotting examples section 2.5 in User Guide Part I I/O and  
  or provide a sentence indicating they were provided for  
  illustration.

Action 3 DRI ROPP v2: in the Release Notes

o create an other section “limitations” or “open issues”, in the 
  release note for example to identify the remove of text file, 
  requiring using only netcdf. 
o check if the colour “red” for new module is appropriate.

Action 4 DRI ROPP v2: BUFR specification document

o remove the drawing in fig 1 of the document by another, for  
  example the one in user guide volume 2 fig3.1.

Action 5 DRI ROPP v2: Ticket 148 related to L1 and L2 data in BUFR:

o Issue cannot be reproduced at Met Office. Some further 
  investigation will be performed. It should be fixed if possible 
  prior to delivery of V2, or it will be identified in the release 
  note in the new section “open issues”.

Action 6 DRI ROPP v2: Ticket 153 

o Ticket 153 on “writing invalid data to multifiles” should be 
  mentioned in the release note section “open issues”.

Action 7 DRI ROPP v2: concerning test folder

o perform test related to “netCDF files run through CF convention 
  compliance checker” and if there are differences, identify them in 
  the release note “open issue”.

Action 8 DRI ROPP v2: concerning Release Notes/Overview/Download site

o verify with Met Office if the sentence in Overview document: “On  
  request to the Met Office via the ROPP Development Team” is valid 
  for downloading the BUFR kernel, and correct.

Note DRI action 9 (concerning netcdf 4) will be covered in a subsequent ticket, to be addressed by milestone 3.0.

ROPP-2 DRI meeting minutes

This is a summary of the DRI actions now closed for ROPP-2 release.

Action 1 DRI ROPP v2: concerning GRAS SAF ROPP Overview,

All sub-actions completed, modified overview document submitted to ropp_doc trunk. See [1963].

Action 2 DRI ROPP v2: concerning User Guide Part I

IDL, PV-wave and R examples checked to be working. Updated some of the supplied .pro routines to ensure these still work (see [1168, 1169]). Updated User Guide document section 2.5 (see [1976]).

Limitations section added, and added text to status boxes as well as colours. See updated [1963].

Action 4 DRI ROPP v2: BUFR specification document

Figure 1 in BUFR document updated. See revision [1963].

Action 5 DRI ROPP v2: Ticket 148 related to L1 and L2 data in BUFR:

Investigation with DMI on day following DRI showed performance to be associated with '-l' flag. Ticket now closed. See #148.

Limitations section added to Release Note includes this point. See [1963].

Compliance checker used. All but error correlation files passed first time. Correlation files now have the Convention attribute added and now also pass this test. See [1965, 1966]. Also successfully tested input/output to all module tests for CF compliance.

Action 8 DRI ROPP v2: concerning Release Notes/Overview/Download site
o verify with Met Office if the sentence in Overview document: “On  
  request to the Met Office via the ROPP Development Team” is valid 
  for downloading the BUFR kernel, and correct.

The "On request..." sentence refers to obtaining a copy of the original source, and so still stands (i.e. it is not available from websites in the same way as netcdf, udunits etc). The relevant part of the Overview guide has been updated to clarify this.

Further edits of the User Guide documentation have also been conducted prior to ROPP-2 release to include editorial suggestions from Kent.
